Events: NYE and Field Day (31 December 2021 and 1 January 2022)

The Royal Botanic Garden Sydney will be busy over the next few weeks with New Year's Eve (31 December 2021) and Field Day (1 January 2021) events taking place.

Bump-in for New Year's Eve will commence on Wednesday the 22nd December 2021. During this time visitors should be aware of the road and pathway closures in the Domain and Royal Botanic Garden Sydney.

New Year's Eve

Will the Royal Botanic Garden be open on New Year’s Eve? 

Yes to day visitors only. The Royal Botanic Garden will be open from 7.00 am and close at Midday on Tuesday 31 December 2019. Entry and exit via Morshead Gate only - located on the corner of Macquarie and Bent Streets. 

Is there public parking available close to the site? 

Public transport is the best way to get around on New Year’s Eve as extensive road closures will be in place on the 31 December 2021.

There is no parking available on Art Gallery Road or Mrs Macquaries Road from 8.00 pm on 30 December 2021 through to 4.00 am on 1 January 2022.

The closest public car park to the site is the Domain Car Park.  Please refer to Domain Carpark website for further details and we recommend you contact the operator for access instructions on New Year’s Eve.

Field Day

Field Day is a music event to be held in the Phillip Precinct, Domain on Saturday 1 January 2022.
 
Field Day is an over-18’s music event, with food and beverage available on-site. The event will take place from 12.00 pm to 11.00 pm and up to 20,000 patrons are expected to attend.
 
Sound checks and rehearsals will be carried out between 3.00 pm and 5.00 pm on Thursday 30 December 2021 and 10.30 am until 12.00 pm on Saturday 1 January 2022.
 
The event hotline will be active during rehearsal and main event times. The hotline number is: (02) 9231 8330.
 
The Domain is serviced by the following transport options:
 

  • Train: exit via St James, Martin Place or Circular Quay

  • Ferry: walk to The Domain from Circular Quay

  • Bus: for timetables, maps and trip planning visit www.transportnsw.info

 To facilitate easier patron access in the vicinity, please note the following traffic changes will occur:
 

Road Closures


From 7:00 pm until approx. midnight Art Gallery Road will be closed to incoming traffic.

From 10:00 pm until approx. midnight Police Managed Road Closures to safely manage the events egress include:

  • Art Gallery Road from Hospital Road to Mrs Macquarie Road

  • St Marys Rd from Prince Albert Road to Sir John Young Crescent

  • Prince Albert Road from Macquarie Street to Art Gallery Road

  • Hospital Road from Art Gallery Road to Shakespeare Place

  • Macquarie Street from Hunter Street to Prince Albert Road

  • St James Road from Elizabeth Street to Macquarie Street

  • College Street from Park Street to Prince Albert Road

  • Cathedral Street at St Marys Road

Footpath Closures

For the purposes of safety and staging of the event, it is necessary to close:

  • Phillip Path from 28 December 2021 – 4 January 2022

  • Arbor Day Walk from 9.00 am 31 December 2021 – 7.00 am 2 January 2022

Parking Restrictions

Limited meter parking is available on Mrs Macquaries Road and the Domain Carpark. For prices visit: www.domaincarpark.com.au

Drop Off Zone

A drop off zone will be operational on event day on Hospital Road near the corner of Art Gallery Road. On event egress, mobility pick up available on St Marys Road, access from Sir John Young Crescent.
 
Note there may be delays during the event’s egress between 10:00pm – midnight.
