The cliff face and fencing at Tarpeian Way in the Domain will undergo essential works from December 2020 – December 2021.
The NSW Government is investing over $4M in this heritage remediation and essential works. Due to the nature of heritage restoration, the works will be completed in three phases.
Phase one will commence in late December 2020 and be completed by March 2021. During this time the sandstone cliff face will be stabilised. There will be temporary pathway closures and fencing to secure the work site and ensure public safety. Between 7am and 4pm weekdays there will be an increase in vehicle movements in the Tarpeian Precinct Domain. No work will be performed during weekends and or public holidays. A noise and dust reduction plan will be in place and noise reduction curtains will be used as required.
Phase two will be to replace the sandstone base and restore the steel pickets to the Palisade Fence above the Opera House Forecourt. It will commence March 2021 and be completed by August 2021.
Phase three will be to replace the sandstone base and restore the steel pickets to the Palisade Fence along Macquarie Street to Government House Delivery Driveway. It will commence August 2021 and be completed by December 2021.
