Career journey and highlights

Jimmy admits plants have always been a part of his life provoking an insatiable curiosity that led to him studying for a Bachelor’s Degree in Ornamental Horticulture. From there it was on to Pennsylvania State University to complete his Masters qualifications.

Prior to joining the Garden's Jimmy enjoyed over a decade as the Senior Director of Gardens at the Dallas Arboretum & Botanical Garden in Dallas, Texas, USA, where he honed his skills in Horticultural Display.

Whilst there, he created the largest and one of the most successful plant trial programs in North America. You would often see him on local, state, and national news programs sharing his horticultural knowledge with humour and zest.

He is widely regarded for his vast experience in horticulture fields including farming, wholesale and retail nurseries, landscape design and maintenance, and botanical garden management.

Whilst working across many varied fields of horticulture in his career to date, Jimmy says that working in a public garden has always been his ultimate goal and working at Botanic Gardens & Centennial Parklands is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Jimmy’s creative flair is making its mark on the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney with his Calyx and in-Garden horticultural exhibits, such as Sweet Addiction, All About Flowers, Pollination, and the current Plants with Bite carnivorous plant exhibit assisting to drive record visitation to the Garden.
