Australian Catholic Youth Festival 2017, will be held on the Phillip Precinct in the Domain on Saturday 9 December 2017

The Australian Catholic Youth Festival event is energetic celebration hosted by the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference in partnership with the Archdiocese of Sydney. It will feature international and national presenters and live entertainment culminating in a closing Mass for up to 20,000 attendees.

The event will take place on the Phillip Precinct and the major pathways will remain open during the course of the occupation. An enclosed Stage compound will be located at the southern end of the Phillip precinct for the duration of the event occupation.

What is the ACYF 2017?

Which areas of The Domain / Garden are impacted by this event and when?

The event site will be located in the Phillip Precinct of the Domain between Thursday 7 December and 11 December 2017. 

Fireworks Display

At the conclusion of the mass at approximately 8.30 pm there will be a five minute fireworks display. The display will be launched from the Crescent Precinct and will have a 70 m public exclusion zone in place.

I am not attending the event, will I still be able to access the Domain / Garden on the event day/s?

Most public pathways in the Domain will remain open for the duration of the event occupation. An enclosed Stage compound will be located at the southern end of the Phillip precinct for the duration of the event occupation.

What will the traffic and access impacts be?

Police have advised of a contingency plan to close College Street and St Mary’s Road between 8.30 pm and 9.30 pm on 9 December if required. If Police implement the close there will be an additional close put in place immediately south of the Art Gallery of NSW for the same period.

Will the Pavilion / Botanic Garden restaurant be open as usual?

The Pavilion and the Botanic Garden Restaurant will be open normal hours.

Will the Garden Shop still be operating?

Yes, the Garden will be open normal hours

Will the Choo Choo Express still be operating?

Yes, the Choo Choo Express will be operating as usual.

Will there be any sound impacts related to this event?

Sound checks will be on 

  • Friday 8 December 2017 between 4.00 pm and 8.00 pm
  • Saturday 9 December 2017 between 10.00 am and 2.00 pm

Event Sound will be in effect between 4.00 pm and 9.00 pm on the 9 December 2017.

We work closely with the Office of Environment and Heritage (OEH) and are committed to comply with all legislation and guidelines covering permissible sound levels at outdoor events. This includes pre-event sound checking, as well as event day monitoring and management of noise levels to adjust according to the prevailing weather conditions (e.g. wind strength and direction).
