Event: SMH Half Marathon (Sunday 19 May 2019)

The Sydney Morning Herald Half Marathon is recognised as Australia’s premier Half Marathon, 2019 marks the 28th running of the event. The race commences at 6:15 am at College Street and finishes at 11:00 am at Hyde Park North. Last year the event raised over $1 Million for a variety of charities.

The Garden and Domain will be open for all visitors and spectators on event day.  However, some necessary changes will be in place such as road closures and parking for safety reasons.

Closures:

  • Art Gallery Road and Mrs Macquaries Road will be closed from 4.00 am to 11.30 am. No parking will be permitted during these times and access is restricted to authorised event staff and stakeholders with valid ID/passes up to 5.30 am. No vehicle access in or out of Art Gallery Road will be permitted after 5.30 am.

  • Hospital Road will be altered to a two-way road from 5.00 am – 11.00 am allowing access from the northern end for hospital staff. A Traffic Controller will be positioned at Art Gallery/ Hospital from 5:00 am until the reopening. Entry via the northern end of Hospital Road is controlled by both Police and Traffic Controllers.

  • External road closures and clearways are planned in the Sydney CBD to facilitate this event. For the latest traffic information, visit www.livetraffic.com.

Parking restrictions / parking availability: Public parking on Art Gallery Road and Mrs Macquarie’s Road will be available from 11.30 am on event day.

Parking is available in Domain Carpark which will be open for patrons on the event day from 4.45 am.

Mobility Pass Holder access: No access or mobility parking during road closure periods between 4.00 am and 11.30 am.

During these closure periods, parking is available in Domain Carpark from 4.45 am on event day.

Gate Closures: Gates will be open as per normal operating hours.

Footpath Closures: Pedestrian access to the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney and Domain will be maintained at all times with marshals in place to guide pedestrians to crossing points along the course.
 
On the event day, there will be some necessary traffic and access restrictions in place for safety reasons. 

Sound impacts

This is a community sporting event which creates only minimal noise around the course. The Army band will perform in front of the AGNSW unamplified during the event.   
 
Sound checks and rehearsals times will be carried out intermittently at the following times:

  • sound checks approx 6.00 am and 6.15 am on Sunday 20 May.

  • event sound approx 6.15 am to 10.30 am on Sunday 20 May.
