  • Art supplies (e.g. colouring tools, craft paper, scissors, glue)

  • Video recording devices & editing software

Learning intention:

Create a campaign for the conservation of the Cumberland Plain Woodland for a western Sydney community.

Instructions:
  1. Observe!
    Use satellite view in Google Maps to view the Cumberland Plain Woodland remnant areas at the Australian Botanic Garden, Mount Annan, and nearby natural areas. Identify surrounding land uses and trace vegetation corridors.

  2. Discuss!
    As a class, brainstorm how people living near areas of Cumberland Plain Woodland might use or impact the Cumberland Plain Woodland.

Next, brainstorm how people living near areas of Cumberland Plain Woodland can help protect it.

  1. Campaign!
    Students create an advertising campaign that could be used to raise community awareness of how to care for nearby native woodland communities. For their campaign, they must come up with a:

    1. Tagline

    2. Informative poster which could be placed around the suburb

    3. Short informative video presentation (similar to an advertisement)
