Audio Tour-Teacher Resource

Instructions:

1. Explore!
   Explore the woodland in 360º using the Virtual Woodland Wander and click on the hotspots to find out the plants and animals of the Cumberland Woodland.
   As students walk through the woodland, they must select 5 ‘pit stops’ they would like to discuss in their audio tour. Each pit stop needs to feature something interesting about the Cumberland Plain Woodland. This may be living or non living. Students complete Table 1 on the Student Activity Sheet.

2. Prepare!
   Students conduct research to gather more information and ‘fun facts’ about their chosen features. Students complete Table 2 on the Student Activity Sheet.

3. Write!
   Students compose a script for their audio tour. Prompt students to compose their scripts with the purpose of guiding the visitor where to look or what to listen for, for example, 'Look down, you might notice a trail of ants marching along. They’re the clean-up crew of the woodland', or ‘If you keep walking forward you may see a huge Forest Red Gum!’
   Students may choose to write their script as an informative tour or in a narrative style, but must be as detailed as possible when commenting on features or events – e.g. include the name of the species or vegetation layer in their commentary.

4. Record!
   Students use sound recording equipment (this could be as simple as a phone) to record their audio commentary.

5. Share!
   Encourage students to share their audio tours with each other.
    

Optional: 
Students may add sound effects for particular stops on the walk, to help illustrate activities in the woodland.
