Frequently Asked Questions
How can I book a virtual excursion?
Virtual excursions can be requested via our DART Learning listings. Once we receive your booking request via DART we will then provide you with our confirmation and quote documentation that confirms your booking. For Homeschool sessions, bookings and payment are made via our Humanitix page.
How many students can attend a virtual excursion session?
Our virtual excursion sessions have a capacity of up to 300 students.
How many teachers can attend a virtual excursion session?
At least one teacher must be online with their students during the session. Additional teachers are welcome to attend free of charge.
What times do your sessions start?
We have a range of scheduled and by request virtual excursions. If you are booking a 'by request' virtual excursion please provide your three preferred dates and times in your booking request and we will get back to you with a confirmation and quote.
How do we connect?
Our virtual excursions are hosted via Zoom. The booking contact will be provided with connection details before the date of their virtual session.
Can we run our virtual excursion via a different platform?
Please contact us if you require a different platform for your virtual excursion.
What do we need to connect?
If students are learning from home, they will need:
- Internet connection
- Own device with in-built microphone
If you are joining from a classroom, you will need:
- A microphone so the presenter can hear the class. Please note that some laptop microphones are difficult to hear, and the positioning of the laptop is important for capturing sound. During the program, students may need to move toward the laptop if they have a question to ask or answer.
- A projector or smartboard that allows the students to see the presenter – your classroom smartboard is perfect for this.
- Adequate sound volume (usually from your smartboard or external speakers). Laptop speakers are inadequate for your whole classroom to hear the presenter.
Can we book for a custom topic?
If you would like to book for a session not listed on our DART Learning provider page, please send an email to programs.info@botanicgardens.nsw.gov.au with more information about your requirements.

Screens on or off?
For students learning from home, microphones and video will be disabled. For students joining from a classroom both microphones and video can remain on throughout the session.
Is the virtual excursion recorded?
Virtual excursion sessions will not be recorded, unless previously advised.
Do we need any materials or resources to participate in virtual excursion activities?
If your virtual excursion requires materials or resources to participate, these will be emailed to you before the date of your session and/or listed on the DART listing.
