Profile
When Graeme first began his career journey, he never imagined it would lead to a thriving career in seed collection and conservation. Graeme began his career in horticulture as a garden labourer at the Australian Botanic Garden Mount Annan and his passion for horticulture grew from there. During early years the practical experience gained working at Mount Annan was complemented by the completion of two separate Certificates in both Horticulture and Arboriculture.
During this period Graeme developed an interest in the cultivation of rare plant species and this led to an opportunity to work in the seed bank at Mount Annan, as the organisation began to focus on long-term seed conservation. After almost a decade at Mount Annan, Graeme left the organisation but returned after several years to play a major role in the collection and testing of seeds as part of the Rainforest Seed Conservation Project.
During this second stint, Graeme completed an Honours Degree in Environmental Science and a seed conservation course at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. As his expertise grew, his role with us expanded and morphed. He has a particular interest in seed dormancy and germination cues of threatened species. He is currently the Seedbank Curator of the Australian PlantBank at Botanic Gardens & Centennial Parklands.
