Plant Diversity

As the lead agency for plant systematics research in NSW, we discover, document and classify plants and algae, and seek to understand their relationships and evolution.  Though our primary focus is the Australasian flora many of our projects have a global perspective. We are also active in plant conservation and and botanical nomenclature.

Plant Diversity is responsible for:

We are active participants in the botanical community locally, nationally and internationally with staff being on committees and society councils such as the NSW Threatened Species Scientific Committee, the Australian Plant Census (APC), the Australasian Systematic Botany Society (ASBS), the International Association for Plant Taxonomy (IAPT), as well as numerous international journals. Staff teach and supervise students at various tertiary institutions.

The Plant Diversity web pages were compiled in 2019 by the Plant Diversity team,
with assistance from Amelia Martyn Yenson.
