The Calyx wins at the Good Design Awards

Constructed as a horticultural display, research and education centre, The Calyx formed a special centrepiece of the Garden’s 200th birthday celebrations in 2016. One year after opening, The Calyx was awarded a prestigious Good Design Award.

The awards which have been around for over 50 years, endorse good design in Australia and provide consumers with a clear indicator of the cornerstones of good design across form, function, quality, safety, sustainability, commerciality, beauty and innovation.

In the next round of judging The Calyx will compete against other exciting public design projects including; the City of Perth, Hasset Park, Puli Garden, the Rhodes Peninsula Open Space Masterplan, the Tonsley Innovation District Urban Design & Public Spaces and Windsor Plaza.

Coined ‘a jewel in the Garden’ for its elevated position and sense of arrival, The Calyx is built at the site of the Arc Greenhouse in the Garden, with very intelligent and sensitive architecture.
Troy Uleman, Lead Architect and Director

Today visitors can experience The Calyx as a mix of indoor and outdoor zones. A giant changing space for events exhibitions and displays. The building is multi-use and houses the largest changeable interior green wall anywhere in the Southern hemisphere.
