VIP visitors share the Garden with the world

Their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, known around the world as Prince Harry and Meghan, gained headlines around the world while in Sydney for the Invictus Games in October.

In addition to hosting the Royals at the Domain, the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney has had an exciting year with numerous high-profile TV and music personalities joining us – let the name dropping begin!

Kevin Fraser, Entertainment Tonight Host

In town from Hollywood for the Royal visit, Entertainment Tonight (ET) host Kevin Fraser quickly fell in love with the beauty of the Domain.

While the ET team did manage to catch the Royals at the Invictus Games cycling event along Mrs Macquaries Road, it was Mrs Macquarie's Point that caught Kevin’s eye for his piece to camera and Instagram story.

The stars of ASAP Live

The international pop stars of ASAP Live visited the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney and shared their trip to Sydney with their millions of fans around the world.

The Fillipino pop superstars including Yeng Constantino (pictured above), Jed Madela, Angelina Quinto, Moira Dela Torree and Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach, were in town for a live concert for the popular music TV show ASAP Live.

The team visited the Southern African Garden and Fleet Steps to record videos about the history and highlights of the Garden that were broadcast to millions of viewers on Filipino TV and cable channels around the globe.

Miss First Nation

With (we believe to be) the best views in Sydney, the Garden and Domain host many talented and creative performers.

A different type of royalty, Miss First Nation showcases Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander drag queens! These amazing artists visited Mrs Macquaries Chair for a glam photoshoot on a very muggy day – but as you can see they kept their cool.

The Kingdom Choir perform at the Garden

In town to perform with Aloe Blacc at the closing ceremony of the Invictus Games, Harry and Meghan’s favourites (they performed at their wedding!) the Kingdom Choir made a very special recording at the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney for BBC One in the UK.

Wowing visitors to the Garden with an impromptu concert, the Kingdom Choir performed a flawless rendition of Stand By Me against the backdrop of the Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Duke and Duchess of Sussex

Saving the very best for last, it was an honour to have both the cycling and the Athlete’s Village of the 2018 Invictus Games at the Domain.

His Royal Highness the Duke of Sussex visited cycling supporters along Mrs Macquaries Road and spoke with athletes at the Domain where he presented the cycling medals.

The Duchess then joined Harry at Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s Invictus lunchtime reception at the Domain’s very own Pavilion Restaurant.

Prince Harry gave a speech on the back veranda of the Pavilion Restaurant, and the Royal couple made time to meet with children from the Kookaburra Kids Foundation.

It was also at the Domain – further along at Mrs Macquarie's Point – that Harry donned those infamous budgie smugglers!
