Built in 1878, Lion Gate Lodge is a stunning Victorian sandstone building boasting a private landscaped cottage garden, large permanent awning and paved courtyard. This unique venue is hired unfurnished, offering the flexibility to create your own theme and select your own caterer.

The Lodge is conveniently located on Mrs Macquaries Road, with private entry for your guests. Contact our venue bookings team to discuss booking your garden wedding, team building or corporate launch.

Lion Gate Lodge is hired dry (empty venue with no furniture). This means that you are responsible for providing all event services and infrastructure required to run your event, such as staging, audio, lighting, catering, security, fencing, décor etc.

Client access
Approved vehicles (for deliveries only) may access the Lodge through Stoneyard Gate off Mrs Macquaries Road.
Rangers will be responsible for opening and closing the venue as required. Prior to the booking, a schedule of your access requirements will need to be provided to the Events & Venues Officer.

Direct access through the pedestrian gate on Mrs Macquaries Road. Please refer to Site Map for further information.

Main function room, additional preparation room and kitchen.

Upstairs
There is one toilet and a shower.
There are two unfurnished rooms. One further meeting room may be made available by prior arrangement with the Events and Venues Officer. Fees may apply.

The Trust will clean your site immediately prior to your event. The site must be left clean and tidy with all furniture, equipment and rubbish removed. It is the Hirer’s responsibility to tidy and remove any waste from site, including bottle tops and cigarette butts. 

Electronic check-in is mandatory

The garden has Service NSW COVID Safe Check-in  QR codes placed at all bookable venue hire spaces.
You as the event organiser and venue hirer are the responsible person and must ensure that you and all your guests, suppliers and contractors check in.

To streamline the check-in process we recommend that all guests and suppliers download the Service NSW application on your phone prior to arriving on site.

 COVID-19 Safety Plans and registration are mandatory for all functions
Under the NSW Public Health Orders all function bookings must have a COVID-19 Safety Plan.

All functions must register as COVID Safe.

Prepare and complete the plan in consultation with your Events and Venues Officer, and provide the them with a copy.
Who must develop the COVID-19 Safety Plan

The responsible person is the person organising the event i.e. wedding/reception, memorial, corporate event, picnic or other venue hire.  

The responsible person must develop and comply with a COVID-19 Safety Plan that addresses the safety measures in the checklist. 

Keep your plan up to date

You may need to update the plan in the future, as restrictions and orders change.
It is your responsibility to have an up-to-date plan at all times and to show it to an authorised officer if requested.

Cut flowers and foliage are permitted on site with the exception of listed weeds. 
Any plant item containing soil content is not permitted on site.

Open flames, untethered balloons, confetti, and glitter are not permitted.
The use of flameless candles is encouraged.

All event decorations need to be planned and installed as free-standing items. Attachment of items to internal or external walls, trees, buildings, heritage features or other fixed structures is not permitted.

Notes:

  1. 20% discount applies for bookings Monday - Thursday 8.00 am - 5.00 pm.
  2. All fees quoted are GST inclusive. Additional miscellaneous charges may apply.
  3. Duration of Function Hire is to include set up and pack up of venue.
  4. Bookings outside of the Garden opening times will incur an additional security fee.
  5. Fees valid 1 October 2020 - 30 June 2021.

There is no furniture in the Lodge. It is the hirer’s responsibility to arrange all necessary furniture for their requirements.

Indoor: The main function room is lit with down lights on a dimmer switch.

Outdoor: The awning, courtyard and garden are lit with spotlights.

Guest parking is available in metered parking bays on Mrs Macquaries Road.

Parking for one vehicle will be reserved near Stoneyard Gate adjacent to Lion Gate Lodge. Please refer to site map

Power points available as per floor plan. External power is available. Hirer to provide all extension leads. 

Train: The closest train stations are Martin Place and Circular Quay station.

Bus: #441 runs from Circular Quay to the Art Gallery of NSW.

Taxi: Taxi pick up from Macquarie Street. Hirer to organise if required. 

Security is optional while the Royal Botanic Garden, Sydney is open but is required for all events that extend beyond Gardens opening hours.

On the day of your event a portable sign directing guests to the Lodge will be placed on Mrs Macquaries Road near the pedestrian gate and on the pathway outside the lion statues. There is also permanent signage throughout the Royal Botanic Garden, Sydney giving directions to the Lodge. 

There is strictly no smoking inside the venue. All cigarette butts must be placed in the receptacles outside. 

All rubbish must be placed in the garbage and recycling bins located outside the toilets. Recycling procedures are mandatory. All additional rubbish not placed in the bins must be removed from the site.
