Tucked inside the Royal Botanic Garden is a spectacular marquee site, Parade Ground. Fantastic space for large corporate functions where multiple marquee structures is required.

Our outdoor greenspace venues are available for hire for a minimum period of three (3) days at a time. Should you require additional days to build/dismantle your event then this can be arranged on request. Please note that it is not possible to hire our outdoor venues for less than three (3) days.
The Royal Botanic Garden's outdoor venues are hired as greenspace only. This means that you are responsible for providing all event services and infrastructure required to run your event, such as marquees, staging, audio, lighting, catering, security, fencing, toilets, décor etc.

Please note it is a condition of hire that you engage an experienced event management service provider to deliver your private outdoor event. Your Botanic Gardens venue representative will work closely with your appointed event manager to ensure that they are briefed on the operational delivery requirements of the venue.

This will ensure that your event is both safe and successful whilst also minimising impacts on the natural greenspace which may include impacts such as those which could be caused by traffic/deliveries, event equipment (installation/removal), supplier access, waste, power & water, and major infrastructure such as marquees and other temporary facilities.

Approved vehicles (for deliveries only) may access Bennelong Lawn via Government House Delivery Gate off Macquarie Street. Prior to your event, a schedule of your access requirements will need to be provided to the Functions Coordinator.

Bump in / Bump out 7.00 am – 6.00 pm
Event Hours: 8am – 11pm
No lighting at Parade Ground, it’s the hirer’s responsibility to provide adequate lighting for bump in and out days plus event day.
Marquees must be weighted, not pegged and must not impose on any garden bed or touch any trees or cover any pathways. Please speak directly with our venue services team to advise maximum marquee sizes for this lawn.

Parking is available in nearby parking stations including the Sydney Opera House Car Park. Limited one hour parking is also available on Macquarie Street (managed by City of Sydney). Supplier and guest parking arrangements are the responsibility of the Hirer. 

Limited 3 phase power and single phase power are available on the site. It is likely that you will need to supply an additional generator for your event.

Hirer to provide all extension leads. 

Train: The closest train stations are Martin Place Station and Circular Quay Station.
Taxi: Taxi pick up from Mrs Macquaries Road. Client to arrange if required. 

The Hirer is responsible for organising all aspects of the event including:

  • Event management & production
  • Marquee & other structures
  • Catering
  • Toilet facilities
  • Staging, lighting & audio
  • Theming & decoration

A representative of the hirer must be present on site at all times during bump in, the event and bump out.

A representative of the Trust and a deliveries monitor are required to be present
throughout bump in, the event and bump out at the Hirer’s expense. Event Security is mandatory. Overnight asset security is optional, however strongly recommended.

As per the Trust’s E.P.A. Notice of Preventive Action, the sound emanating from amplification equipment must not exceed 55 db or 5 db above ambient background levels outside the structure between 7.00 am and Midnight. 
There is no permanent toilet block near Bennelong Lawn. Temporary toilets must be arranged by the Hirer. 
Waste management is the Hirer’s responsibility. Recycling procedures are mandatory. 
Access to mains water is available. The Hirer is responsible for supplying a tap key and all hoses required to fit a 19 mm standard tap connection.

The site must be left clean and tidy with all furniture, equipment and rubbish removed.

Decorations or other items cannot be attached to trees, buildings, heritage features or other fixed structures. Party streamers, confetti, sparklers and fireworks are not permitted.  

It is the Hirer’s responsibility to hire any marquee structures, furniture or equipment required. The Trust does not have these items available for hire.
