Foundation and Friends of the Botanic Gardens has launched a special, ongoing pop-up in the Growing Friends Nursery. This spring we are thrilled to be featuring the Sydney based maker Trade the Mark.
Open six days a week, the Nursery is a unique shopping experience for plant-lovers. All plants sold are propagated from the Living Collections of the Botanic Gardens. Run entirely by volunteers (including propagation), the Nursery offers endangered and hard-to-find plants among its range of native and exotic plants. With that uniqueness in mind, Foundation and Friends is expanding the Nursery’s offering to include handmade plant pots that are every bit as unique as the plants. The ongoing pop-up invites a single Australian ceramicist to sell their work exclusively within the nursery for a season.
The work of artist Christina McLean, Trade the Mark is committed to the slow tradition of hand craftsmanship, which inspires a love of beauty of individual objects. Encompassing rich indigos, beautiful burnt oranges and imaginative details, her artworks and bespoke pieces are inspired by organic textures and hand-sourced treasures from her travels. Truly embracing her mark making passion, each piece is painstakingly hand made and painted, a one-off, created in her Marrickville studio.
