Marvel at the fireworks and panoramic views of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, the CBD and Opera House as you indulge in a delicious gourmet hamper on your favourite outdoor rug. A must-do experience!

Important Information
Q: What time is the event?
Gates to the event open at 7.00 pm with last entry at 8.30 pm. The event finishes at 12.30 am (with last drinks at 12.00am).

Q: What is included in the ticket price?
Your ticket ensures you hassle-free managed access to the event site. Upon arrival, you will receive a gourmet picnic hamper with entrée, main and desert and a bottle of water. Snacks can be purchased at the bar.

Every ticket purchased supports the work of the Royal Botanic Garden’s science, horticulture and conservation projects.

Q: Is there any entertainment at the event?
Lawn with the View is a relaxed all ages family picnic style event with no formal entertainment program. Patrons will hear the synchronized fireworks music broadcast.

Q: What time are the fireworks?
There are two fireworks displays on New Year’s Eve, the first is at 9:00 pm and the largest display is hosted at midnight. The display is synchronised to music which is broadcast at the event.

Q: What are the seating arrangements?
Lawn with the View is a picnic style event so please bring your picnic blanket along. Camping chairs are not permitted but you may bring low line beach seats or flat fold mats. There is an accessible viewing area with limited seating available upon request.  

Q: Can I bring children to Lawn with the View?
Lawn with the View is an all-ages event. Everyone entering the site regardless of age must have a ticket. There are no concessions for children. Special consideration may be given on request for infants under three years old. To lodge your request please email: nye.enquiries@botanicgardens.nsw.gov.au

You are welcome to bring strollers, but we request you to collapse them ensure all guests can enjoy the views.

Q: What should I wear?
This is an outdoor event which will proceed in all weather. Guests are advised to wear comfortable footwear (the event site is grass terrain) as there is a 600 m walk from the access gate at Macquarie Street to the event site, on a sealed pathway. Guests are also advised to bring warmer clothing as it can become quite cool at night.

Q: When do ticket sales close?
Ticket sales will close at 2.00 pm on the 30 December unless sold out prior.

Q: Will the event be Covid safe?
The Royal Botanic Gardens takes the safety of our guests very seriously. All events at the Gardens during NYE2022 will be Covid safe and all events will follow the relevant Health guidelines.

Q: Will I get a refund if the event is cancelled due to Covid?
Yes. Details will be on the Ticketbooth website.

Q: I have a special dietary requirement. What should I do?
The published menu and corresponding ticket type accommodates most of the common dietary requirements such as vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, lactose free and halal. Please ensure you purchase the dietary ticket to reflect your requirements.  The caterers will assist with other dietary requirements where possible but requests MUST be made upon booking tickets via the survey link provided and the ‘Other Special Dietary’ ticket type MUST be selected.

Q: Can I bring additional food to site?
No. Additional snacks are available to purchase on site if required.

Q: What beverages are available?
Each guest receives a bottle of water on arrival and drinking water refill stations are available on site. Beverages are not included in the ticket price and can be purchased at the cash bars. Only ticket holders over the age of 18 years will be permitted to purchase alcoholic beverages. Photo ID may be requested.

Q: Can I bring alcohol to Lawn with the View?
No. Lawn with the View is a licensed event, and a range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages will be available for sale. Opened beverages will be confiscated at the bag check. The Royal Botanic Gardens & Domain Trust reserves the right to confiscate any restricted items and/or refuse entry to any persons not complying with Conditions of Entry.

Q: Where is Lawn with The View located?
Lawn with the View is held at Bennelong Lawn, an intimate elevated lawn area overlooking the Sydney Opera House inside the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney. Entry and exit is via the corner of Bridge and Macquarie Street, thought Government House Gates.

Q: How do I get there?
Due to extensive road closures and high pedestrian traffic in the city, public transport is the easiest way to get to the event. There are additional trains, bus and ferry services available and transport hubs are within easy reach of this site.

The closest train stations are:

  • Martin Place Train Station: 650 m to the managed access entry gate on Macquarie Street.
  • St James Train Station: 800 m to the managed access gate entry on Macquarie Street.

Q: Is Lawn with the View a wheelchair accessible event?
Yes, Lawn with the View is wheelchair accessible but it is a picnic style event and the majority of the site is grass terrain. Movement around the site can be restricted as spectators are seated on the lawn. Aisle ways are maintained to allow guests to move from viewing areas to amenities/facilities.

Facility and Site Details

Smoking
Lawn with the View is a non-smoking event. There will be a designated smoking area away from where guests are seated.

Pass-outs
There are no pass-outs once a ticket holder has entered the event.

Conditions of Entry

Please remember you are entering the Royal Botanic Garden and Domain - a sensitive environment. Please consider the safety of other guests.

All guests entering the event site will be subject to security bag checks and must show valid identification and tickets.

Restricted items will be confiscated and entry refused to any persons not complying with conditions of entry.

The following items are not permitted in the event site:

  • No BYO beverages, including alcohol. Water is allowed in unopened plastic bottles.
  • No glass.
  • No sparklers, party poppers or candles.
  • No umbrellas (personal umbrellas under 50cm in length are allowed).
  • No chairs, however you can bring a low-lying beach chair, flat-fold mats and picnic rugs.
  • ​No large tripods (small mini portable tripods are acceptable)

Responsible Service of Alcohol

Alcohol sales are subject to Responsible Service of Alcohol and Harm Minimisation Practices which will be strictly enforced.

  • Any guest under the influence of alcohol upon arrival will be refused entry.
  • Only people aged 18 and over are able to purchase and consume alcoholic beverages.
  • Patrons are strictly prohibited from suppling alcohol to minors.
  • You may be required to present photographic identification to security and bar staff in order to purchase alcohol.
