NYE Garden Party at The Calyx

Located in the heart of the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney, the Calyx will host an exclusive New Year's Eve garden party offering guests the opportunity to welcome in the new year in luxurious style.

The garden party will feature plenty of entertainment throughout the night, free-flowing drinks, canapes and food stations. Dance the night away with our live bands and DJs, relax in our casual seating areas or explore the Calyx’s exhibits. As midnight approaches, guests will take a night-time walk through the Garden to an exclusive harbour-side viewing area for the midnight fireworks, which will be accompanied by a glass of bubbles.

The Calyx, in the heart of The Royal Botanic Garden, is one of Sydney’s most unique venues. This  world-class space will come alive with activations to keep you entertained, while enjoying gourmet food and free-flowing drinks. A late night walk through the Garden will take you to a waterside viewing area where bubbles will be served, while you enjoy the midnight fireworks.

Important Information

Q: What time is the event?  
Gates to the event open at 7.30 pm with last entry at 8.30 pm. The event finishes at 12.30am (with last drinks at 12.30am).  
Q: What is included in the ticket price?
Your ticket gives you exclusive access to The Calyx, waterfront viewing of the midnight fireworks, an all-inclusive beverage package, food stations and canapés. The event also offers live music and roving entertainment.

Every ticket purchased supports the Botanic Gardens' vital science, horticulture, and conservation projects.

Q: Is there any entertainment at the event?
The Calyx offers guests a relaxed atmosphere with a variety of live entertainment.

There will be bands throughout the evening and roving performers. Guests will also hear the synchronised music broadcast down by the harbour

Q: What time are the fireworks? And what view will I have?
There are two fireworks displays on New Year's Eve. The first is at 9.00 pm and the second at midnight. Both displays are accompanied with synchronised music which will be broadcast at the event. 

The 9.00 pm fireworks will be displayed on screens around the venue. Guests will be taken down to the harbour to view the midnight fireworks where you will have sweeping views over the barges in the harbour, Farm Cove, and the Sydney Opera House.

Q: Can I bring children to The Calyx?
No. This is a strictly 18+ only event and you must be of age to purchase a ticket.
Proof of age identification may be requested at the entry and at the bars.

Q: What are the seating arrangements?
There will be a range of unreserved seating options available ranging from cafe-style tables and chairs, communal tables with bench seating, bar stools and lounge areas.

Q: Is there a dress code?
We suggest smart casual attire and comfortable footwear. Guests are also advised to bring a jacket or warmer clothing as it can become quite cool at night.

Q: When do ticket sales close?
Ticket sales will close 2.00 pm on 30 December unless sold out prior.

Q: Will the event be Covid safe?
The Royal Botanic Gardens takes the safety of our guests very seriously. All events at the Gardens during NYE2022 will be Covid safe and all events will follow the relevant Health guidelines. 

Q: Will I get a refund if the event is cancelled due to Covid?
Yes. Details will be on the Ticketbooth website.

Q: What is included in the meal and how is this served?
Guests will enjoy an evening with food stations and roving canapes. Food will be available for the duration of the event. Stations and canape will offer vegetarian, gluten free and vegan options. View the menu here.

Q: I have a special dietary requirement. What should I do?
The menu accommodates most of the common dietary requirements such as vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, lactose free and halal. Please contact us if you wish to discuss your dietary requirement further.

Q: Can I bring additional food to the event?
No, additional food can’t be brought into the event.

Q: What beverages are available?
Alcoholic beverages, soft drinks, tea, and coffee are included in the ticket price. Champagne will be served by the harbour for the midnight fireworks. Please note no beverages will be permitted to be taken from The Calyx to the viewing area for the fireworks.

Q: Can I bring alcohol to The Calyx?
No. The Calyx is a licensed event, and a range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages will be available. Beverages brought into the event site will be confiscated at the bag check. The Royal Botanic Gardens and Domain Trust reserves the right to confiscate any restricted items and/or refuse entry to any person not complying with the conditions of entry.

Q: Where is The Calyx located?
The Calyx is venue located inside the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney. The exclusive waterside location for viewing the midnight fireworks is a short walk to a Garden near the Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Q: How do I get there?
Entry and exit are via a managed security check point on Macquarie St (corner of Bridge), which is closed to traffic on New Year’s Eve. The event site is approximately 400 metres or a 10-minute walk from the entry gate on Macquarie St. Pathways are sealed and there is a moderate slope to negotiate.

The closest train stations are:  

  • Martin Place Train Station: 1 km from the managed access entry gate on Art Gallery Rd.
  • St James Train Station: 900 m to the managed access gate entry gate on Art Gallery Rd.

Q: Is this an accessible event?

Conditions of Entry

Please remember you are entering the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney and Domain – a sensitive environment. Please consider the safety of other patrons. All patrons entering the site will be subject to security bag check and must show valid identification and tickets. Restricted items may be confiscated and entry refused to any persons not complying with conditions of entry. 

The following items will not be allowed to be brought into the event site:
•    No BYO beverages including alcohol and water
•    No glass
•    No sparklers, party poppers or candles​
•    No umbrellas (personal umbrellas under 50 cm are allowed)
​•    No large tripods (small mini portable tripods are acceptable)

Responsible service of alcohol

Alcohol sales are subject to Responsible Service of Alcohol and Harm Minimisation Practices which will be strictly enforced. 
•    Any patrons under the influence of alcohol on arrival will be refused entry.
•    Only people aged 18 and over can drink and purchase alcoholic beverages. 
•    Patrons are also strictly prohibited from supplying alcohol to minors onsite (i.e. persons under 18 years of age).
•    You may be required to present photographic ID to security and bar staff to purchase alcohol.
