From this spectacular ground level, harbour front location, guests will enjoy unsurpassed views of our magnificent harbour and the fireworks. Enjoy an entrée hamper on arrival, then dine your way around the world with a selection of food stations serving savoury and sweet dishes. The Point also features live entertainment for you to groove into the New Year. Bars will be on site for purchases of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.

The Point is a colorful summer soiree enjoying uninterrupted, unrivalled waterside views across Farm Cove to the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge. This is an exceptional and unique way to experience New Year’s Eve in Sydney.
On arrival you will receive your entrée picnic box, then graze at your leisure from a selection of international food stations serving hot savory and sweet delights. Enjoy live music and dance the night away to funk, soul and reggae beats by the live DJ.

Q: What time is the event?  
Gates to the event open at 5.30 pm with last entry at 8.30 pm. The event finishes at 1.00am (with last drinks at 12.30am).  

Q: What is included in the ticket price?
Your ticket ensures exclusive access to stunning waterside views of both the 9:00pm and midnight fireworks, an entrée picnic box on arrival followed by a variety of food options. The event also offers live music and a DJ. A copy of the menu is available below on the Royal Botanic Gardens event listing page.

Every ticket purchased supports the work of the Royal Botanic Garden’s science, horticulture and conservation projects.

Q: Is there any entertainment at the event?
The Point is a festival style event offering patrons a relaxed atmosphere with a variety of live entertainment. There will be a DJ playing music and live upbeat-busker style musicians. Patrons will hear the synchronized fireworks music broadcast.  

Q: What time are the NYE fireworks?  
There are two fireworks displays on New Year’s Eve, the first at 9:00pm, with the largest display hosted at midnight. The display is synchronised to music which is broadcast at the event.

Q: Can I bring children to The Point?
This event is strictly an over 18+ event and you must be of age to purchase a ticket. Proof of age ID may be requested at entry and at the bars.

Q: What are the seating arrangements?
There will be a wide range of unreserved seating options available ranging from cafe style tables and chairs, communal picnic tables with bench seating, bar stools and picnic style bean bags. Seating is available at a first come basis. If you sit at a table with multiple chairs you will be joined by other guests. For the comfort of fellow guests please only take one seat per person.

Q: Is there a dress code?
This is an outdoor event which will proceed in all weather. We suggest smart casual attire and comfortable footwear. Guests are also advised to bring a jacket or warmer clothing as it can become quite cool at night.

Q: When do ticket sales close?
Ticket sales will close 2.00 pm on 30 December 2022, unless sold out prior.

Q: Will the event be Covid Safe?
The Royal Botanic Gardens takes the safety of our guests very seriously. All events at the Gardens during NYE2022 will be Covid safe and all events will follow the relevant Health guidelines.

Q: Will I get a refund if the event is cancelled due to Covid?

Q: What is included in the meal and how is this served?

Guests receive an entrée picnic box on arrival. The various food offerings food stalls will operate from 6.00 pm to 9.00 pm on grab and go basis. This means that guests can visit a stall more than once, but we cannot guarantee availability of all menu items for the entire duration of the event. Stalls will offer a vegetarian, gluten free and vegan options. The dessert and tea/coffee stalls will operate after the 9.00 pm fireworks. Additional snacks are available at the bar for purchase if required.

Q: I have a special dietary requirement. What should I do?
The published menu and corresponding ticket type accommodates most of the common dietary requirements such as vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, lactose free and halal. Please ensure you purchase the dietary ticket to reflect your requirements. The caterers will assist with other dietary requirements where possible, but requests must be made upon booking tickets via the link provided and the ‘Other Special Dietary’ ticket type MUST be selected. 

Q: Can I bring additional food to site?
No. Additional snacks are available to purchase at the bars if required.

Q: What beverages are available?
Each guest receives a bottle of water on arrival and drinking water refill stations are available on site. Beverages are not included in the ticket price and can be purchased at the cash bars.
Photo ID may be requested.

Q: Can I bring alcohol to The Point?
No. The Point is a licensed event, and a range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages will be available for sale. Opened beverages will be confiscated at the bag check.

The Royal Botanic Gardens & Domain Trust reserves the right to confiscate any restricted items and/or refuse entry to any persons not complying with Conditions of Entry.

Where is the event located?
The Point a waterside location below Mrs Macquarie’s Chair with panoramic views of Farm Cove, the Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge. Entry and exit is via Art Gallery Road, which is closed to traffic on New Year’s Eve.

The event site is approximately 900 metres or a 15-minute walk from the entry gate on Art Gallery Road. Pathways are sealed and there is a moderate slope to negotiate.

Q: How do I get there?
Due to extensive road closures and high pedestrian traffic in the city, public transport is the easiest option to get to the event. There are additional trains, bus and ferry services available and transport hubs are within easy reach of this site.

The closest train stations are: 

•    Martin Place Train Station: 1 km from the managed access entry gate on Art Gallery Rd.
•    St James Train Station: 900 m to the managed access gate entry gate on Art Gallery Rd.

Q: Is this an accessible event?

Facilities and Site Details

The Point is a non-smoking event. There will be a designated smoking area away from where patrons are seated.

Pass Outs: There are NO pass outs once a ticket holder has entered. 

Conditions of Entry

Please remember you are entering the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney and Domain – a sensitive environment. Please consider the safety of other patrons. All patrons entering the site will be subject to security bag check and must show valid identification and tickets. Restricted items will be confiscated and entry refused to any persons not complying with conditions of entry. 

The following items will not be allowed to be brought into the event site:

•    No BYO beverages including alcohol and water
•    No glass
•    No sparklers, party poppers or candles
•    No umbrellas (personal umbrellas under 50 cm are allowed)
​•    No large tripods (small mini portable tripods are acceptable)

Responsible Service of Alcohol

Alcohol sales are subject to Responsible Service of Alcohol and Harm Minimisation Practices which will be strictly enforced. 

•    Any patrons under the influence of alcohol on arrival will be refused entry.
•    Only people aged 18 and over are able to purchase and consume alcoholic beverages. 
•    Patrons are strictly prohibited from supplying alcohol to minors onsite (i.e. persons under 18 years of age).
•    You may be required to present photographic ID to security and bar staff in order to purchase alcohol.
