Getting Here

Due to extensive road closures and high pedestrian traffic in the city, public transport is the easiest way to get to the Royal Botanic Garden and Domain.

There will be additional train, bus and ferry services available and transport hubs are within easy reach of all our events.

The closest train stations to the The Point are:

  • Martin Place - 1000m walk to the managed access gate on Art Gallery Road.
  • St James - 900m walk to the managed access gate on Art Gallery Road.

All ticket holders will be sent detailed arrival and transport information via email prior to the event.

The Point is a waterside location below Mrs Macquarie's Chair with panoramic views of Farm Cove, the Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge. Entry and exit is via Art Gallery Road, which is closed to traffic on New Year's Eve.

The event site is approximately 900m or 15-minute walk from the entry gate on Art Gallery Road. Pathways are sealed and there is a moderate slope to negotiate.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Will the New Year's Eve events go ahead if the weather is bad?

This is an outdoor event which will proceed in all weather.

Fireworks are presented by the City of Sydney. In the event fireworks are cancelled, the Royal Botanic Gardens and Domain Trust will not be held responsible or provide compensation.

What is included in the ticket price?

Your ticket gives you exclusive access to stunning waterside views of both the 9.00 pm and midnight fireworks, an entree picnic box on arrival followed by a variety of savoury and sweet food grazing stations.

The event also offers live music and a DJ.

Drinks are not included. Licensed bars with beverages for purchase are located in the event site.

Every ticket purchased supports the work of the Royal Botanic Garden's science, horticulture and conservation projects.

What beverages are available?

Each guest receives a bottle of water on arrival, and there are multiple refilling stations available on-site.

Beverages are not included in the ticket price and can be purchased at the cash bar.

Only ticket holders over the age of 18 will be permitted to purchase alcoholic beverages. Photo identification may be requested.

Is there any entertainment at the event?

The Point offers patrons a relaxed atmosphere with a variety of live entertainment.

There will be a DJ playing laid back funk, soul and reggae influenced music, live upbeat-busker style musicians and some roving performers.

Patrons will hear the synchronised fireworks music broadcast.

What time is the event?

Gates open at 5.30 pm, with last entry at 8.30 pm.

It will finish at 1.00 am, with last drinks at 12.30 am.

What time are the fireworks and what view will I have?

There are two fireworks displays on New Year's Eve. The first is at 9.00 pm and the second at midnight. Both displays are accompanied with synchronised music which will be broadcast at the event.

Can I bring children to The Point?


This is a strictly 18+ only event and you must be of age to purchase a ticket.

Proof of age identification may be requested at the entry and at the bars.

What are the seating arrangements?

There will be a range of unreserved seating options available ranging from cafe-style tables and chairs, communal picnic tables with bench seatings, bar stools and lounge areas with beanbags and basket chairs.

You may also being your own rug to enjoy sitting on the grassed areas.

Is this an accessible event?

Yes, this event is wheelchair accessible.

Is there a dress code?

We suggest smart casual attire with comfortable footwear.

Guests are also advised to bring a jacket or warmer clothing as it can become quite cool at night.

When do ticket sales close?

Ticket sales will close 2.00 pm on 30 December unless sold out prior.

What is included in the meal and how is it served?

Guests receive an individual entree box on arrival.

Between 7.00 pm and 9.00 pm guests can collect a selection of hot and cold savoury dishes served on a "grab-and-go" basis from an exciting range of international themed food stalls.

Guests can visit stations more than once, but we cannot guarantee the availability of all menu items for the duration of the event.

Stations will offer vegetarian, gluten free and vegan options.

I have special dietary requirements, what should I do?

The published menu and corresponding ticket type accommodates most of the common dietary requirements including vegetarian, vegan, lactose free and halal. Please ensure you purchase the dietary ticket to reflect your requirements.

The caterers will assist with other dietary requirements where possible, but requests must be made upon booking tickets via the link provided and the "Other Special Dietary" ticket type must be selected.

Can I bring additional food into the event?


Additional snacks can be purchased from the bars if required.

Terms and Conditions

Facility and Site Details

The Point is a non-smoking event. There will be a designated smoking area away from where guests are seated.

We recommend you bring cash to The Point. There are ATM facilities on-site and EFTPOS terminals at the bar. However, we cannot guarantee consistent operation of these facilities during the event.

There are no pass-outs once a ticket holder has entered the event.

Conditions of Entry

Please remember you are entering the Royal Botanic Garden and Domain - a sensitive environment. Please consider the safety of other guests.

All guests entering the event site will be subject to security bag checks and must show valid identification and tickets.

Restricted items will be confiscated and entry refused to any persons not complying with conditions of entry.

The following items are not permitted in the event site:

  • No BYO beverages, including alcohol and water.
  • No glass.
  • No sparklers, party poppers or candles.
  • No umbrellas (personal umbrellas under 50cm in length are allowed.
  • No chairs. Picnic rug seating only.

Responsible Service of Alcohol

Alcohol sales are subject to Responsible Service of Alcohol and Harm Minimisation Practices which will be strictly enforced.

  • Any guest under the influence of alcohol upon arrival will be refused entry.
  • Only people aged 18 and over are able to purchase and consume alcoholic beverages.
  • Patrons are strictly prohibited from suppling alcohol to minors.
  • You may be required to present photographic identification to security and bar staff in order to purchase alcohol.
