Arcimboldo x Archibald: Art Class with Charlotte Thodey

A two-day art class in the Royal Botanic Garden with Charlotte Thodey

In celebration of the annual Archibald portraiture exhibition at the Art Gallery of NSW, renowned vegetable artist Charlotte Thodey is leading a unique class drawing inspiration from a 16th century artist who integrated the wildly different themes of produce and portraiture: Giuseppe Arcimboldo.

Arcimboldo was an Italian painter best known for his whimsical and imaginative portraits depicting noblemen comprised entirely of fruits, vegetables, and plants. His paintings were rediscovered in the 20th century by surrealists such as Salvador Dali, and they continue to be a source of fascination as scholars and artists continue to attempt to decipher their meanings in both amusement and allegory.

The Archibald exhibition will be on display is on display in the Art Gallery of NSW 9 May – 6 September.
