Celebrate New Year's Eve in style at the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney's stunning event.

Located in the heart of the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney, The Calyx will play host to a sublime garden party offering guests the opportunity to welcome in the new year in luxurious style.

The garden party features plenty of entertainment throughout the night, free-flowing drinks, canapés and food stations.

Dance the night away with our live bands and DJs, relax in our casual seating areas or explore the Calyx's exhibits.

As midnight approaches, guests will take a nighttime walk through the Garden to an exclusive harbour-side viewing area for the midnight fireworks, which will be accompanied by a glass of bubbles.

Every ticket sold to the Garden Party at The Calyx helps support the Royal Botanic Garden's horticultural, scientific and conservation programs.

Getting Here

Due to extensive road closures and high pedestrian traffic in the city, public transport is the easiest way to get to the Royal Botanic Garden and Domain.

There will be additional train, bus and ferry services available and transport hubs are within easy reach of all our events.

The closest train stations to the Harbour Hoopla are:

  • Martin Place - 650m walk to the managed access gate on Macquarie Street.
  • St James - 800m walk to the managed access gate on Macquarie Street.

Will the event go ahead if the weather is bad?

This event is a combination of indoors and outdoors which will proceed in all weather.

Fireworks are presented by the City of Sydney. In the event fireworks are cancelled, the Royal Botanic Gardens and Domain Trust will not be held responsible or provide compensation.

What is included in the ticket price?

Your ticket gives you exclusive access to The Calyx, waterfront viewing of the midnight fireworks, an all-inclusive beverage package, food stations and canapés. The event also offers live music and roving entertainment.

Every ticket purchased supports the work of the Royal Botanic Garden's science, horticulture and conservation projects.

What beverages are available?

Alcoholic beverages, soft drinks, tea and coffee are included in the ticket price. Champagne will be served by the harbour for the midnight fireworks.

Please note no beverages will be permitted to be taken from The Calyx to the viewing area for the fireworks.

Photo identification may be requested.

Can I bring alcohol or other drinks to The Calyx?

No.

The Calyx is a licensed event and a range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages will be available.

Beverages brought into the event site will be confiscated at the bag check. The Royal Botanic Gardens and Domain Trust reserves the right to confiscate any restricted items and/or refuse entry to any person not complying with the conditions of entry.

Is there any entertainment at the event?

The Calyx offers guests a relaxed atmosphere with a variety of live entertainment.

There will be bands throughout the evening and roving performers. Guests will also hear the synchronised music broadcast down by the harbour.

What time is the event?

Gates open at 7.30 pm with last entry at 9.00 pm.

The event finishes at 12.30 am, with last drinks served at 12.00 am.

What time are the fireworks and what view will I have?

There are two fireworks displays on New Year's Eve. The first is at 9.00 pm and the second at midnight. Both displays are accompanied with synchronised music which will be broadcast at the event.

The 9.00 pm fireworks will be displayed on screens around the venue.

Guests will be taken down to the harbour to view the midnight fireworks where you will have sweeping views over the barges in the harbour, Farm Cove and the Sydney Opera House.

How long is the walk to the viewing area?

The viewing area is approximately a 20-minute walk from The Calyx.

Guests are encouraged to wear comfortable and appropriate footwear. Please let us know ahead of time if you have any mobility concerns and require assistance.

Can I bring children to The Calyx?

No.

This is a strictly 18+ only event and you must be of age to purchase a ticket.

Proof of age identification may be requested at the entry and at the bars.

What are the seating arrangements?

There will be a range of unreserved seating options available ranging from cafe-style tables and chairs, communal tables with bench seating, bar stools and lounge areas.

Is this an accessible event?

Yes.

This event is wheelchair accessible. For detailed information for people with a disability, please refer to the fact sheet.

Ticket holders will be provided with an opportunity to book mobility assistance if required.

Is there a dress code?

We suggest smart casual attire and comfortable footwear.

Guests are also advised to bring a jacket or warmer clothing as it can become quite cool at night.

When do ticket sales close?

Ticket sales will close at 2.00 pm on 30 December unless sold out prior.

What is included in the meal and how is it served?

Guests will enjoy an evening with food stations and roving canapés.

Food will be available for the duration of the event. Stations and canapés will include vegetarian, gluten free and vegan options.

I have special dietary requirements, what should I do?

The menu accommodates most of the common dietary requirements such as vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, lactose-free and halal. Please contact us if you wish to discuss your dietary requirements further.

Can I bring additional food to the Calyx?

No.

Additional food cannot be brought into the event.

Terms and Conditions

Facility and Site Details

Smoking
The Calyx is a non-smoking event. There will be a designated smoking area away from where guests are seated.

ATM
We recommend you bring cash to The Calyx as there are no ATM facilities on-site. There are EFTPOS terminals at the bar, however we cannot guarantee consistent operation of these facilities during the event.

Pass-outs
There are no pass-outs once a ticket holder has entered the event.

Conditions of Entry

Please remember you are entering the Royal Botanic Garden and Domain - a sensitive environment. Please consider the safety of other guests.

All guests entering the event site will be subject to security bag checks and must show valid identification and tickets.

Restricted items will be confiscated and entry refused to any persons not complying with conditions of entry.

The following items are not permitted in the event site:

  • No BYO beverages, including alcohol. Water is allowed in unopened plastic bottles.
  • No glass.
  • No sparklers, party poppers or candles.
  • No umbrellas (personal umbrellas under 50cm in length are allowed.
  • No chairs, however you can bring a low-lying beach chair, flat-fold mats and picnic rugs.

Responsible Service of Alcohol

Alcohol sales are subject to Responsible Service of Alcohol and Harm Minimisation Practices which will be strictly enforced.

  • Any guest under the influence of alcohol upon arrival will be refused entry.
  • Only people aged 18 and over are able to purchase and consume alcoholic beverages.
  • Patrons are strictly prohibited from suppling alcohol to minors.
  • You may be required to present photographic identification to security and bar staff in order to purchase alcohol.

The Royal Botanic Gardens and Domain Trust is committed to achieving best practice in environmental management. All packaging of food and drinks sold on Trust lands for New Year's Eve is biodegradable or recyclable.
