Join your Aboriginal tour guide to learn about the Cadigal people – the traditional owners of the Sydney city area. Depending on the season you'll forage and eat Australian Bush Foods as you walk and talk.

Learn about the diverse history and culture of the Aboriginal people of the Sydney region with an Aboriginal guide in the heart of the city. Uncover the Royal Botanic Garden's rich Aboriginal heritage by exploring plant uses, culture, artefacts and tasting some bush foods.

Price

$41 per person (children 7 years and under free). Walk-ups accepted on the day, paying by card only. We do not accept cash, cheques or American Express.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the tour run in all weather?

Yes, the Aboriginal Heritage Tour runs in all weather. If there is an extreme weather warning from the Bureau of Meterorology we will inform you as soon as possible and provide a full refund or transfer. We do not provide refunds if you choose to not attend due to weather.
Do you have a student/concession/child price?
The Aboriginal Heritage Tour is $41 per person. Children 7 years and under are free.
Where is the meeting point?
Please meet your guide at the Garden Shop/Information Booth in the centre of the garden behind the restaurant. Please click here to view the location on Google Maps.
Can I pay on the day?
Bookings are preferred online so that our guide can be ready to welcome you on the day. If you cannot book online we can accept Visa or MasterCard payments on the day only. We cannot accept cheques, cash or American Express.
Is there parking nearby?
Limited metered parking is available on Mrs Macquaries Road. Public transport is recommended. 
Refunds
As per our Terms and Conditions:
2. Bookings and Payment 
a. Eventbrite
Purchase of a booking in Eventbrite is final. Participants are required to bring a copy of their Eventbrite booking confirmation to the activity. 
3. Refunds and Cancellations
a. Wet Weather
All booked programs will go ahead in wet weather. In the case of severe weather warnings the BGCP may cancel and a change of date or refund may be offered at the BGCP’s discretion.
b. Eventbrite
No refunds apply for cancellation of bookings made through Eventbrite.
A request for a date change can be made in writing 48 hours prior to the booking commencement time. Approval of a date change is at the discretion of the BGCP.
Itinerary
Meeting Point: Garden Shop/Information Booth 
Start Time: 10:00am
Please meet your guide at the Garden Shop/Information Booth prior to the commencement of the tour.
Your guide will take you on a walk around The Royal Botanic Garden Sydney and share their knowledge about the rich and diverse culture of the Aboriginal Peoples of Australia. 
Your first stop will be Sydney Harbour where your guide will explain traditional food sources and way of life as well as how first contact impacted upon this. 
Next, as we walk through Cadi Jam Ora, an award winning garden, your guide will point out different plants and explain their uses as well as give guests the opportunity to touch, taste and smell. Here guests will also have an opportunity to look at and handle traditional artefacts while our guides discuss what they were used for, how they were made and who would have used them.
