Free Science Week tours, walks and demonstrations

Join our passionate and knowledgeable plant scientists, horticulturalists and educators as they take you behind the scenes to share their work, the treasures of the Garden's collection or their in-depth cultural knowledge.

All walks and demonstrations will be happening at Living Laboratory Science Festival on Sunday 18 August 2019. To find out what else is happening on the day click here.

Transport

Public transport recommended. Limited parking available

11.30am - Orchids and behind the scenes nursery tour        

 Be guided by a member of the horticulture team behind-the-scenes in our Nursery. Learn how plants are propagated and visit the glasshouses normally closed to the public. Register prior to secure your place.
 

12.00noon - Plant Adaptations Walk with Gardens Scientists

Come and explore the gardens with two Botanic Gardens scientists and see the wonderful ways trees have adapted to different environments. A whirlwind tour from desert through rainforest and to the coast. Register prior to secure your place.
 

12.30pm - Lunch time Digeridoo Performance                         

Be wowed by our Aboriginal Educators bringing the noises of Australian animals to life through a lunch time didgeridoo performance. Bring the kids to dance along like little assize animals! Registrations not essential.
 

1.00pm - Traditional Medicinal Plants Walk                            

Join our Aboriginal Educators on a tour of our Cadi Garden to learn about some traditional medicinal plants found in the Sydney bushland and surrounds. Register prior to secure your place.
 

1.30pm - Plant Adaptations Walk with Gardens Scientists

2.00pm - Plant Clinic behind-the-scenes tour

Meet our scientists who work to study, diagnose and treat plant diseases that threaten parks, gardens, farmlands and wilderness, plus go behind-the-scenes through the plant clinic labs! Register prior to secure your place.

2.30pm - Traditional Medicinal Plants Walk

Please note: You are not required to register in advance for these free tours/workshops, however your information does help us with our planning.
Places are limited in some tours and will be assigned on the day via registration at the Information Tent on a first come first served basis. Please arrive early to avoid disappointment.
