Joanne Aquilina is a warm hearted and passionate advocate for Therapeutic Horticulture and is the founder and driving force behind Therapeutic Gardens Australia. Her goal is to not only design, create and maintain therapeutic gardens but also provide an information source for those wanting to develop garden facilities for individuals and groups with special needs.

Joanne will discuss the 5 Senses Garden based in Rhodes Park Concord, offering an inclusive, sensory garden focussed on community and wellbeing. The 5 Senses Garden is a place for the entire community offering workshops, volunteering opportunities, and a space for local growing and social connections. The garden is a joint initiative between the City of Canada Bay and Inner West Neighbour Aid and provides tailored activities for residential care facilities, schools, hospital programs and other non-for-profit organisations.

Jo believes passionately in the therapeutic power of gardening, plants and horticulture to help both individuals and communities. Therapeutic gardens are a wonderful way of providing regular stimulating yet relaxing interaction with nature, but they aren’t just a great place for those with special medical needs. Gardens are a beautiful and healthy resource for everyone.

Customer: The person who is attending the event. Member’s Price: Available for customers who will hold a current membership with Foundation and Friends of the Botanic Gardens at the time of the event/activity. Customers, individuals or groups must be named as membership holders. Non-Member’s Price: Available to all customers who are not current membership holders with Foundation and Friends of the Botanic Gardens. For cancellations of less than 10 days: No refunds or transfers. For cancellations of 10 to 30 days prior: Cancellation fee is 50% of event/activity price, capped at a maximum of $100. The remaining amount paid can be used to transfer to another event/activity or refunded. For cancellations of 30 days or more: No cancellation fee applied. The full amount paid can be used to transfer to another event/activity or refunded.
