Still have questions? We have the answers. Check out our frequently asked question below and get all the inside information. Q: Will the New Year's Eve events go ahead if the weather is bad? This is an outdoor event which will proceed in all weather. Fireworks are presented by City of Sydney. In the event that the fireworks are cancelled, the Royal Botanic Gardens & Domain Trust will not be held responsible or provide compensation. Q: Where is Harbour Hoopla located? Harbour Hoopla is held at the Tarpeian Way precinct, an elevated lawn area overlooking Circular Quay, the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Opera House inside the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney. Entry and exit is via Macquarie Street, which is closed to traffic on New Year’s Eve. View location map Q: What time is the event? Gates to the event open at 6.00 pm with last entry at 8.00 pm. The event finishes at 1.30 am, with last drinks at 12.00 am. All ticket holders will be sent detailed arrival and transport information via email prior to the event. Q: What is included in the ticket price? Your ticket gives you hassle-free, managed access to the event site where you can enjoy fantastic views of the midnight fireworks and entertainment all evening. Upon arrival you will receive a main meal picnic box as well as savoury snacks, sweet treats and a bottle of water. Every ticket purchased supports the work of the Royal Botanic Garden’s science, horticulture and conservation projects. Q: What food can I expect in my picnic box? A full menu can be viewed here. Q: I have a special dietary requirement. What should I do? The published menu and corresponding ticket type accommodates most of the common dietary requirements such as vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, lactose free and halal. Please ensure you purchase the dietary ticket to reflect your requirements. The caterers will assist with other dietary requirements where possible but requests MUST be made upon booking tickets via the link provided and the ‘Other Special Dietary’ ticket type MUST be selected. Q: Can I bring additional food to site? No. Additional snacks are available to purchase on site if required. Q: What beverages are available? Each guest receives a bottle of water on arrival and multiple drinking water refill stations are available on site. Beverages are not included in the ticket price but can be purchased at the cash bar. Only ticket holders over the age of 18 years will be permitted to purchase alcoholic beverages. Photo ID may be requested. The bar menu can be viewed here. Q: Can I bring alcohol or other drinks to Harbour Hoopla? No. Harbour Hoopla is a licensed event and a range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages will be available for sale. Beverages bought to the venue will be confiscated at the bag check. The Royal Botanic Gardens & Domain Trust reserves the right to confiscate any restricted items and/or refuse entry to any persons not complying with Conditions of Entry. Q: What entertainment is at the event? Harbour Hoopla is a fun vintage circus themed event offering patrons a range of interactive entertainment including old fashioned funfair games, circus performers and quirky dress-ups in the themed photo booth. There will also be a live DJ and dance floor. Patrons will hear the synchronized fireworks music broadcast. Q: What time are the fireworks and what view will I have? There are two fireworks displays on New Year’s Eve - at 9.00 pm and at midnight. Both displays are synchronised to music which is broadcast at the event. Some views of the 9 pm fireworks from this site are partially restricted by tree canopies. The placement of the midnight fireworks on the Harbour Bridge and from water barges allows unrestricted viewing from this site. Q: What are the seating arrangements? Harbour Hoopla is a picnic style event so please bring your picnic blanket along. Chairs are not permitted. There is an accessible viewing area with limited seating available upon request. Ticket holders will be provided with an option to book mobility assistance if required. Q: Can I bring children to Harbour Hoopla? Harbour Hoopla is an all-ages event. Everyone entering the site, regardless of age, must have a ticket. There are no concessions for children. Special consideration may be given on request for infants under three years old. To lodge your request please email email@example.com. You are welcome to bring strollers, but we request you collapse them once inside the event to ensure all guests can enjoy the views. Q: Is Harbour Hoopla wheelchair accessible event? No. Harbour Hoopla is not wheelchair accessible. It is a picnic style event with much of the site being sloped grass terrain. For detailed access information for people with disability, please refer to the fact sheet. Ticket holders will be provided with an option to book mobility assistance if required. Q: How do I get there? Due to extensive road closures and high pedestrian traffic in the city, public transport is the easiest option to get to the event. There are additional trains, bus and ferry services available and transport hubs are within easy reach of this site. The closest train stations are: • Martin Place Train Station: 950m to the managed access entry gate on Macquarie Street. • St James Train Station: 1100m to the managed access gate entry on Macquarie Street. For additional transport information visit transportnsw or phone 131 500. Q: What should I wear? Guests are advised to wear comfortable footwear as the event site is grass terrain. Guests are also advised to bring warmer clothing as it can become quite cool at night. Q: When do ticket sales close? Ticket sales will close at 2.00 pm on the 30 December unless sold out prior. General Information Facilities and Site Details Smoking: Harbour Hoopla is a non-smoking event. There will be a designated smoking area away from where patrons are seated. ATMs: We recommend you bring cash to Harbour Hoopla. There are ATM facilities on site and eftpos terminals at the bar however, we cannot guarantee consistent operation of these facilities during the event. Pass Outs: There are NO pass outs once a ticket holder has entered Conditions of Entry Please remember you are entering the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney and Domain – a sensitive environment. Please consider the safety of other patrons. All patrons entering the site will be subject to security bag check and must show valid identification and tickets. Restricted items will be confiscated and entry refused to any persons not complying with conditions of entry. The following items will not be allowed to be brought into the event site: • No BYO beverages including alcohol and water • No glass • No sparklers, party poppers or candles • No umbrellas (personal umbrellas under 50 cm are allowed) • No chairs – picnic rug seating only Responsible Service of Alcohol Alcohol sales are subject to Responsible Service of Alcohol and Harm Minimisation Practices which will be strictly enforced. • Any patrons under the influence of alcohol on arrival will be refused entry. • Only people aged 18 and over are able to purchase and consume alcoholic beverages. • Patrons are strictly prohibited from supplying alcohol to minors onsite (i.e. persons under 18 years of age). • You may be required to present photographic ID to security and bar staff in order to purchase alcohol. Waste Wise Events The Royal Botanic Gardens & Domain Trust is committed to achieving best practice in environmental management. All packaging of food and drinks sold on trust land for NYE is biodegradable or recyclable. You can help us lessen the impact of NYE celebrations on our environment.
