Learn about how the Royal Botanic Garden's horticultural team are putting plants to the test in a range of experiments to see how well different varieties survive in Sydney’s ever-changing conditions.
Adam Tietz, horticulturist at the Royal Botanic Garden and 2017 recipient of a Foundation and Friends staff scholarship, returns from his detailed, 4-week, study trip in the United States. Adam visited and worked in public and private trial gardens in five states, exploring best practices which are now being implemented to improve the Trial Gardens at the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney.
Hear Adam describe the varied trial, display and propagation techniques utilized by the American trial gardens with their selections of cultivars. He hopes to recreate their successes of introducing the cultivars the following season to the public, such as in Botanic Gardens, Councils, Parklands and Garden Centres throughout the USA.
Includes morning tea, a presentation in the Maiden Theatre, and a tour of the trial beds, located near the Palace Garden.
