In our Kids Aboriginal Art class, kids will learn about this year’s NAIDOC theme “Voice treaty Truth” and why voice is such a key element of culture in Australia

Kids will undertake a flag creating art task that requires them to create their very own flag, using colours and symbols of their own choosing. They can draw inspiration from things in their own lives, current flags or even just what interests them.

At the end of this session, kids will explain to fellow participants of why they used those particular colours, symbols and patterns; what do they represent, why are they special to you, what connection do they have to your life.

This activity uses voice through both non-verbal and verbal forms and teaches kids about how voice is a critical part of culture, but also in their lives.

This activity ties back to the NAIDOC theme and provides a great hands-on experience to learn about the concept of this year’s theme.
