Wednesday Walks December - Living Heritage

Led by our expert staff and volunteers, this series of walks will help you and your family discover and appreciate the beautiful intersection of nature, horticulture, science and history that is the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney.

Each month we will explore a different seasonal theme in the Garden. Uncovering the mysteries of pollination, the extraordinary stories of our trees, the resilience of Australian plants and how this amazing garden evolved from the colonies first European Farm to one of the world’s leading scientific organisations.
Join us on a 1.5 - 2 hour themed walk to discover the plants, people and animals that make and have made your beautiful Botanic Garden by the harbour.

  • December - Living Heritage - join us to explore the built, living and intangible heritage of Australia's oldest Botanic Garden. Plants, staff, historical figures, buildings (present and departed), intersect to create a remarkable shared heritage. Their stories come alive on this walk led by guides passionate about conserving and sharing this heritage.
  • February - Australia before the Gum Trees - What did the landscape and flora of Australia look more than 100 million years ago, before the Gum Tree became the dominant and iconic tree of Australia's forest flora. This walk takes you to shady and wetter parts of our Garden to visit modern relatives of plants that once occurred on the supercontinent Gondwana.
