Woolworths Carols in the Domain

Woolworths Carols in the Domain is Australia’s largest annual, free Christmas family event in its 36th year. Held on the Saturday before Christmas, in the Domain, Sydney, Carols attracts a massive crowd and loyal following.  As well as an all-day event, Carols is broadcast live, nationally on the Seven Network to over two million viewers.  It is also seen throughout Asia, via the ABC.

Some of the biggest names in the Australian entertainment industry have performed at Carols over the past 35 years. From Hugh Jackman, Tina Arena, Guy Sebastian, Jessica Mauboy, Marcia Hines, Human Nature, Dami Im and The Wiggles to international stars Josh Groban, Leo Sayer, Engelbert Humperdinck and David Hasselhoff.
Carols’ official charity is The Salvation Army, who raise much needed funds through the sale of candle bags on the day.
Woolworths Carols in the Domain is an iconic event that holds a special place in the heart of Australians.

Held in the iconic Domain Precinct, Woolworths Carols in the Domain is Australia's largest free Christmas concert screening live across Australia on the Channel Seven Network, to be held on Saturday 22 December 2018. Carols itself is a time-honoured tradition for families across Australia who sing-along to Australia's best-loved performers and favourite Christmas songs.
The event will occupy the Domain’s Phillip Precinct from Monday 17 December and returning to the public on Tuesday 25 December.
Yes, the event site is accessible to the public at all times.
We encourage patrons to use public transport to and from the event:
  • Train: exit via St James, Martin Place or Circular Quay
  • Ferry: walk to The Domain from Circular Quay
  • Bus: for timetables, maps and trip planning visit www.transportnsw.info
To facilitate easier patron access and parking in the vicinity please note the following traffic changes will occur:
  • Traffic delays: Traffic delays anticipated from 12 noon and on egress between 10.00 pm-11.30 pm on both Friday 21 December and Saturday 22 December.
  • Drop off zone: An event drop off zone will be operational on the corner of Hospital and Art Gallery Roads.
  • Road Closures: Art Gallery Rd and Hospital Rd will be closed to inbound traffic from 8.00 pm to 11.00 pm on Saturday 22 December (vehicles are able to exit, except during main pedestrian egress periods). Wider CBD closures may be implemented from 9.00 pm as per Police operations, please visit www.livetraffic.com.
  • Footpath Closures: Access to pedestrian pathways will be maintained at all times.
  • Parking restrictions / parking availability: Limited metered parking is available on Mrs Macquaries Road and the Domain Carpark. For prices visit: www.domaincarpark.com.au.
  • Mobility Pass Holder access: No additional accessibility parking above what is usually available at the Domain. The drop off zone will be located on Hospital Road near the corner of Art Gallery Road. There is an accessible viewing area at event for people with limited mobility.
Yes, sound checks and rehearsals will be carried out intermittently from:
  • Wednesday 19 December 3.00 to 6.00 pm
  • Thursday 20 December 5.00 to 9.15 pm
  • Friday 21 December 3.45 to 10.45 pm
Event sound will be carried out intermittently from 12 noon to 10.45 pm on Saturday 22 December 2018. Note fireworks displays will take place throughout the event. The event hotline number is (02) 9231 8330.

We work closely with the Office of Environment and Heritage (OEH) and are committed to comply with all legislation and guidelines covering permissible sound levels at outdoor events. This includes pre-event sound checking, as well as event day monitoring and management of noise levels to adjust according to the prevailing weather conditions (e.g. wind strength and direction).
